JOHN 3:16
FOR
GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER
BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING
LIFE.
The entire gospel comes to focus in this verse. God’s love is not just to a certain group but to the entire world. Here God’s action defines true love. When you love someone you are willing to sacrifice dearly for that person. God’s action was infinitely practical; He set out to save those who could not save themselves. The offer of salvation is made to everyone who believes. To believe is to put our trust and eternal destiny in Jesus Christ that he alone can save us. By dying on the cross Jesus took our punishment and paid the price for our sins and shortcomings that we will not perish. Here perish refers to eternal separation from God. On the other hand those who believe will have eternal life with God.
The New World Translation reads, “ For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son , in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.”
The difference in the two translations is between “believeth” in the KJV and “exercising faith” in the NWT. By changing the translation to exercising faith , everlasting life can only be obtained by repeated actions of faith {works}. Salvation is a free gift from God that cannot be bought or worked for.
Romans. 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith..
Romans. 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference
Romans. 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Abraham’s works or obedience were not credited to him as righteousness, but his faith was. Abraham believed God’s promise and he was counted to be righteous.
Genesis 5: 4. And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
Genesis 5: 5. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
Genesis 5:6. And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousnes
Romans. 4:3 For what saith the scipture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for rightousness.

If bought or worked for, salvation is not a gift but payment.
Romans.4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
Romans4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Romans5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
If salvation can be obtained by good works than what would be good enough for salvation?
No one could ever be good enough to please God. Salvation is given on the grounds of God’s grace alone and is accepted through faith.
Romans 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
EPHESIANS 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
EPHESIANS 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
===============================================================
Jesus's death on the cross was enough to save us from condemnation under the law to justification by faith. Now if salvation comes by works the death of Jesus was not enough to save us. Salvation cannot equal the death of Christ on the cross, plus works.
If that was the case, than Christ died in vain, and my salvation depends not on the grace of God but on my own actions.
GALATIANS 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
GALATIANS 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
=========================================================================
Salvation comes form trusting in Christ and is within easy reach.
Romans10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved
Romans10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
